The lineal championship moves only when the reigning champion is beaten in a singles matchplay game. Every defence, every upset and every reign is tracked here below.
The record starts from Tiger Woods who we have granted the inaugural title from the 1998 Presidents Cup. The only other instance of the title being granted is to Kevin Kisner who won the 2019 WGC Match Play tournament in which Rafa Cabrera-Bello played his last ever Matchplay game ending on a Win with the title, therefore leaving the title vacant.
Scottie Scheffler is the 3 time and Current Lineal Champion, having defeated previous champion Rory Mcilroy in the Sunday Singles session at the 2025 Ryder Cup.
